What a pretty set of dishes! I love this Betsy Ross pattern by Syracuse China. There are 2 variations on this pattern, shown here is the Betsy Ross – Turquoise, there is also a Betsy Ross – Pink. The difference is the band on the outside of the plate is pink, instead of turquoise (although I would call it aqua myself).
Syracuse China was based in Syracuse, New York and was best known for it restaurant china. But this pattern is fine china made for the home, it is from the “Old Ivory” line, which was produced from 1927 to 1960. I can’t track down exactly when this pattern was produced, but it is marked “Old Ivory” so it must have been sometime in that time span.
I love the pretty floral centers set off the by the patterned rim and a line of gold trim at the verge and also on the outside edge. Judging from the condition, I would guess this was the “good china” brought out for special occasions, because it only shows very light use.
The set includes many dining pieces, but no serving pieces. There are 6 cream soups and saucers, I love those. Plus several sizes of plates, cups and saucers and one lonely double egg cup. The entire set is currently listed at AuntJanesAttic on eBay.
I found this dish set at an antique shop in Sylvania, Ohio. As I drove by I decided to check it out. I don’t usually go into antique stores, as they seem to be either very high-end or filled with lots of collectibles that I have no interest in. This one was full of beautiful classic furniture and accessories – plus one entire wall of beautiful antique crystal – it looked like a museum.
The crystal was displayed in lighted cabinets with clear glass shelves -I wanted to buy it all – but of course, I have no place to display those beautiful works of art. I absolutely love the beautiful cut glass pieces from the late 1800′s to early 1900′s when crystal was in its heyday. Those Victorians adored it and loved to display it in their homes. I have one cut-glass crystal bowl displayed in my china cabinet – but I don’t really have the space to show off any more than that one piece.
